We’ll be exploring her journey as a writer of Christian devotionals and faith-based fiction. Alexis shares how her stories of love and faith resonate deeply with readers and how she hopes to inspire future generations.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
Alexis, thank you for joining us today! I’ve had the pleasure of reading your devotionals and an excerpt of your book, A Second Chance, and I must say, I’m truly enjoying them. Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background, and your writing?
Alexis A. Goring:
Of course! I’ve been writing since I was about nine years old. Writing has always been a part of me—whether I was scribbling in notebooks or creating stories for fun. My passion for Christian fiction and devotionals grew as I deepened my faith. I wanted my writing to reflect the love, hope, and inspiration I found in my relationship with God. I aim to write stories that not only entertain but also offer the message of God’s love and the power of faith.
In addition to my fiction books, I write devotionals that encourage readers to seek God and build a deeper relationship with Him. One of my favorite things to do is share messages that remind people of God’s unwavering love, especially in a world that needs hope and healing.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
It’s amazing that you’ve been writing for so long! Your stories are so vivid—I feel like I can actually see the scenes you describe. What inspired you to focus on faith, love, and God in your writing?
Alexis A. Goring:
Great question! My inspiration comes from my deep love for God and my desire to share His message. It’s not just about writing—it’s about sharing the good news and offering hope to those who need it. God has shown me the power of faith, love, and redemption, and I want my stories to reflect that.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
How did you get started as a writer, especially in Christian fiction?
Alexis A. Goring:
I started writing at age nine, but I didn’t officially pursue publishing until my mid-20s. My first book, Hope in My Heart: A Collection of Heartwarming Stories, was published in 2015. A Second Chance was published in 2017. Love in Pictures was published in 2018, and my devotional book, Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God, was published in 2020. I’ve always had a love for storytelling, and once I realized that writing was a way for me to share God’s love, I decided to go all in. Writing devotionals came at age 16, and what God has given me has been very fulfilling. It’s a way to encourage people to go deeper in their faith.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
You’ve written both fiction and devotionals. What keeps you motivated to share messages of faith and love with your readers?
Alexis A. Goring:
It’s my passion for helping others experience God’s love. I know that the world can be tough, and we all need encouragement to keep going. My writing is a way to help people through difficult times and remind them that God is with them. I hope my stories and devotionals inspire others to strengthen their relationship with God and find hope in Him.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
What advice would you give to young writers who want to write about faith?
Alexis A. Goring:
My advice would be to first nurture your relationship with God, seek God. Speak with Him daily and ask Him to guide your writing. Ask what He wants you to write, then trust that He’ll provide the words and the inspiration. If He leads you to write about faith, then trust that He’ll provide the words and the inspiration. Don’t be afraid to step out in faith, and know that God will send the right opportunities and people your way to help you along the journey.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
That’s powerful—trusting God and following His direction. How do you hope your writing will impact the next generation of readers and writers?
Alexis A. Goring:
I hope that my writing will inspire readers to deepen their faith and develop a closer relationship with God. For young writers, I want them to know that their voices matter and that their stories can make a difference. I hope to show that it’s possible to write with purpose and to use storytelling to share the love of God with others.
Dr. Allma Johnson:
What unique challenges have you faced in writing Christian fiction, and how does your faith shape the stories you tell?
Alexis A. Goring:
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is showing versus telling. This is a skill that I’m still working on. Showing the reader what I am telling them is vitally important and profound when shown. I want to make sure my stories are engaging, but also that they convey messages of hope, love, and redemption. My faith is at the core of everything I write, and I believe that’s what gives my stories their authenticity.
